Will require cleaning over time to maintain it's luster. However, unlike plated metals, solid Sterling Silver can last over the years with proper cleaning and storage. Oxidation can occur, but can be removed with sterling silver jewelry cleaning agents.
14K Gold- Filled

Contains much thicker layer of actual karat gold than "plated" gold and therefore lasts much longer than plated gold. The core of the piece is jeweler's brass while the outer core is a thick layer of heat & pressure-bonded solid gold.

Considered a "lifetime piece", solid gold precious metal jewelry is the best choice for a piece that you want to treasure and wear forever. Solid gold metals can be softer, so be sure to protect your pieces from abrasive surfaces.

(Pronounced "ver-may") Vermeil refers to a thick plating of solid gold over sterling silver rather than a base metal. To qualify as Vermeil, the plating should be at least 2.5 microns thick. As with any plating, the outer gold layer can wear down over time, but will generally last much longer than thinner plated jewelry that does not qualify as Vermeil. A great option for customers who prefer to have a higher quality metal under the plating.
✦ ✦ ✧ ✧ ✧
Electroplated or "dipped" refers to a thinner layer of gold electroplated to the outside of a base metal piece of jewelry (such as jeweler's brass, copper, etc.) to give it a gold color. Plating quality and thickness can vary by designer. Though generally the most affordable of the options, over time, the electroplating layer can wear/rub off as it comes in to contact with skin, water or other elements. To try to ensure your plated pieces last as long as possible, we use a longer plating "bath time" to help improve lifespan. Though, over time, all plated jewelry will inevitably wear down.
Q: When will my custom Lat & Lo™ ship?
A: Though we will always strive to ship your order as soon as we possibly can, due to the handcrafted, highly customized nature of each piece we make special to order, please allow 7-14 Business Days (excluding weekends & US holidays) for your custom piece(s) to ship from our Florida studio.
Q: Why does it typically take 7-14 days to ship orders?
A: Lat & Lo™ prides itself on making custom jewelry to order specially for each customer. We do not mass produce, use molds or pre-make our special custom pieces. After researching your special coordinates to inscribe (if none are provided), each piece is cut, shaped and polished by hand. In addition, we use 14K Gold Filled (14KGF) metals for our gold fill pieces, which cannot be cast in molds. (We chose to offer this metal type because 14KGF has a much heavier gold content, longer lifespan than gold plated items and is tarnish resistant.) Please know that we know its hard to wait on such a sentimental item to arrive. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make your special Lat & Lo™ .
Q: When will my credit card be charged?
Due to the highly customized nature of each piece we make special to order, we do require payment at time of purchase. We cannot resell/restock your custom piece(s) if payment is failed to be made. Because of this, payment is captured at time of sale. Unlike other items often purchased online, our custom pieces are made just for you alone.
Q: Can I make a change to my order once it has been submitted?
A: Because each Lat & Lo piece is custom made to order, typically no changes to your order can be made once your order has been submitted. If you placed the order within 24 hours, you may reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if the order can still be amended before going in to production.
Q: What is the difference between gold plated and gold filled jewelry?
A: Good Question! There is a difference. Check out our informative blog post on this topic here.
Q: What format do you use to write my coordinates?
A: Though there are multiple ways to write out coordinates representing the same location, Lat & Lo™ uses a format called DMS (° Degrees, ' Minutes, " Seconds) unless otherwise requested in your order.
Q: What carrier will you use to ship my order?
A: We currently ship via USPS Priority Mail. Once your order has been completed and shipped, most packages will arrive within 2-3 business days within the US. International orders take longer to arrive at their final destinations due to customs, etc. Please allow additional time for international order deliveries.
Q: How can I know the status of an order I have placed?
A: Your order will be marked as "unfulfilled" in our system until it has completed production. Once it has been completed (within 7-14 business days or sooner) it will be prepared for shipment. Once your order has moved on to shipping, you will receive an email notification that will contain your unique USPS tracking number as well as a link to track your package on its journey to your doorstep.
Q: How can I ask a question about a product or order?
A: We are always happy to help! Please send us an email to email@example.com and we will reply to your inquiry as soon as possible (typically within 24 hours or sooner). Please note, emails sent after normal business hours (5pm EST) or on a weekend, will be responded to as soon as possible once we return.
Q: What is your Shipping & Return policy on these custom pieces?
A: You can find more on our return policy here.
Q: If I ordered a little late, is there something I can print off to show my loved one that something is coming in the meantime while its being made?
A: Yes! Custom made takes a little extra time, but is worth the wait. Need something to gift to show your custom piece is on the way for that special someone? Print off our printable gift receipt here.
Q: Can you inscribe a specific address' coordinates or the general city?
A: On most of our pieces we can inscribe coordinates as specific as you would like. It can be general coordinates for your hometown or as specific as the hospital where someone was born. *However, please note that coordinates to an exact location will require a longer inscription (more numbers) and will therefore appear much smaller than general location coordinates do (in order to make them fit). For example, general coordinates for a hometown where your heart is anchored would appear like this: 30° 46' N 81° 28' W.
However, coordinates to a specific spot within that city would appear like this: 30° 46' 48" N 81° 28' 04" W. These more specific coordinates are longer and would need to be inscribed smaller on the jewelry in order to make it fit entirely. It's up to you!
Here is an example for you to visualize the difference below. (Your actual coordinates will vary from this picture, of course)
